Public Cloud VS Private Cloud

A public cloud contains services or a set of services which are purchased by a business or organization and delivers through the internet by a third-party provider. These services utilize storage capacity and processor power which is not owned by the business itself.

A private cloud is basically an expansion of a business’s traditional datacenter which is optimized to provide storage capacity and processor power for a range of functions. “Private” refers that this platform is for non-shared resources than to any security advantage.

Management of clouds is cost effective as public cloud hosting with the security and reliability of a private cloud. Public and private clouds both have management implication. However, selecting and adopting a public cloud solution, an organization can offload much of the management responsibility to its cloud vendor. In private cloud, there is specific demand on resources to specify, purchase, house, update, maintain and safeguard the physical infrastructure. Financially employing a private cloud can create a large initial capital expenses as it required new equipment and capacity is added.

In a public cloud, the capital expenses is almost eliminated, the financial part is shifted to a fee-for-service often based on utilization and data volume. Maintaining and security of public cloud infrastructure is the responsibility of the vendor, facilitating the customer organization to streamline IT operations and minimizing time and money spent on system.
